Permanent Supportive Housing
The Home Yard Cottages provides affordable, permanent supportive housing units for families and individuals in 24 cottages. Fifteen of the cottages are net-zero with solar panels. Services include case management and community activities for the residents. In 2022, the Cottages housed 33 adults and 39 children.
One of the key interventions in our work is providing access to affordable, safe housing. The Home Yard Cottages is a Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) project we developed, and with many community partners, completed in September 2018 on two acres of land next to the Transitional Living Center. This has increased our capacity to end homelessness and enhance our continuum of services.
Supportive Services
Residents receive supportive services to help them maintain stability and meet goals. PSH is the term that Housing and Urban Development (HUD) uses to describe housing provided to persons who have a disability, are low-income and have been homeless. If you are interested in housing at the Cottages, Kiemle and Hagood manages the property and applications; for more information please call (509) 838 6541.
The Home Yard Cottages include 24 individual homes, ranging in size from 475 sq ft for a single person to 1000 sq ft for a family of 6. They are built on property once used by the Spokane Children’s Home orphanage and the grassy land was called “the home yard.” Thus, the Home Yard Cottages were named.
