Transitions works to end poverty and homelessness for women and children in Spokane.
The Development Intern will support the Development Director and the Graphic
Design and Communications Specialist in advancing Transitions’ fundraising and
communication efforts. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit development, communications, and graphic design while contributing to a mission driven organization. The intern will develop skills in writing, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication through meaningful, real-world projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Development Director on event planning, donor communication,
and administrative tasks.
• Assist the Graphic Design and Communications Specialist in creating visual content,
including social media posts, event materials, and promotional content, using tools such
as Canva.
• Draft and edit donor letters, social media captions, email campaigns, and other written
materials.
• Support planning and logistics for fundraising events, including creating and organizing
materials such as programs, table numbers, and meal cards.
• Participate in team meetings to share ideas, provide feedback, and learn from experienced professionals.
• Work collaboratively with staff of diverse genders, identities, orientations, and
backgrounds to foster an inclusive and respectful environment.
• Introduction to SEO marketing.

finalizing materials essential for communications-related roles or graduate studies.

Qualifications:
• Currently interested in pursuing or recently completed a degree in communications,
marketing, graphic design, nonprofit management, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Canva or other graphic design tools is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when needed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn and take feedback constructively.
• Passion for supporting the mission and values of Transitions.
Schedule and Compensation:
• This is a part-time position with flexible hours to accommodate academic schedules and other commitments.
• While this internship is unpaid, Transitions provides valuable mentorship and
professional development opportunities to prepare interns for future careers.
