Transitions for Women

Update from the Executive Director

  - August 6, 2009

Announcing our first edition of Transitions eNews! We are so grateful for your support to Transitions and want to keep you up-to-date on our activities and services for Spokane women and children in need. While we will continue to mail our quarterly newsletters, we would like to give you the option to hear from us online instead--cutting down on printing costs and decreasing the burden on our environment. If you would like to stop receiving our mailed newsletter, please e-mail us. If you would like to continue receiving it, no action is required! And now, a quick update of our programs:

New Leaf Bakery Café job training program just celebrated it's first full year of teaching professional restaurant skills, instilling confidence, while expanding training and experience allowing program graduates to take a giant step toward employment stability. Come to the Café - in the lobby of the Catholic Charities building on 5th and Division - to see and taste New Leaf progress. Bring a friend and enjoy a large selection of hot and cold coffee and tea beverages plus fresh salads and sandwiches for lunch along with a selection of signature cookies and scones all day. Hours: M-Th 7:30 - 2 p.m., 12 E 5th Avenue.

Transitions' shelter programs, Miryam's House  and The Transitional Living Centerare at maximum capacity. Sixteen single-parent families with 34 children at TLC and 10 women plus 1 newborn at Miryam's House are all getting closer to their goals of becoming stable, self-sufficient community members. Our waiting list grows as women call daily, seeking refuge and assistance to create a better future for themselves and their families.

The Women's Hearth fills up every day with 100 women on average, looking to escape the heat and the streets. At The Hearth women can take a shower, participate in numerous classes focused on healing and personal growth, use the computer lab, connect with other services, or "just chill" in a safe environment where they are accepted. All of these services are free, visit our website for hours.

On Saturday, August 15 you are invited to our Garden Party at Miryam's House to meet community members and the women of Miryam's, enjoy refreshments, hear live music, take a tour, enter the raffle, and perhaps bid on fabulous silent auction items. All proceeds will benefit Transitions. The women of Miryam's welcome children of all ages any time between 1:00 and 5:00. This historic home has a spirit of healing that you will enjoy! Blessings on your summer, Dia
